London LEZ
«
on:

I've had my L200 a month now and liking it. I've added spots to the front, marker lights on the sides steps and nice Yokohama Geolander tyres ready for winter, plus a few service parts and it goes well.
Had fun getting insurance and have my first CV insurance policy, got my tax.. so was surprised to see another letter from the DVLA last night when I got home.
Well, turns out my 2001 pickup doesn't conform to the London Low Emissions policy so should I decide to take it into the M25 ring I will have to pay £100 a day for the privilege next year. I didn't see this one coming, guess as I've always been a Private Car driver rather than Commercial Vehicle owner didn't really pay much attention. Only bought the L200 to carry some BMX bikes around.
Anyway, other than the obvious extortion rackett for visiting London, I guess this has probably wiped a few quid off the value of L200s and similar pick-ups.. Anyone think the same?

It must have had an effect on prices in the SE but down in Devon isn't really an issue. I never go within the M25 circle, more from choice than LEZ. Still sucks for those of you that do though and makes some more tax for the wise spenders......

I dont drive to/around london much but this is annoying out of principle.
Although when i put my numberplate into the checker it says I am unaffected - the chart suggests otherwise however.
What exactly are the emissions figures / standards you have to meet - I cant see any actual numbers?

Just another tax dreamed up by the people who have already spent all our hard earned money to get more.

Just checked mine and it's not affected.
On
this page
, if you hover over the "Light 4x4 Utilities" or "Pickup" icons in the "Affected vehicles at a glance" banner, the pop up tells you that these vehicles are affected if they are
"1.205 tonnes unladen to 3.5 gross vehicle weight, registered as new before 1st Jan 2002"
So that counts out all registered new after 1st Jan 2002.
For example, a 2004 double cab - unladen weight is 1.735 - 1.770 depending on model and has a gross vehicle weight of 2.830. So the weight alone would make it an affected vehicle, but because it's registered after 1st Jan 2002, it becomes exempt.
The cut off seems to be being compliant with Euro 3 emmissions - see

As a contractor working in and around London i have been aware of the LEZ since it was created a few years ago, my l200 is compliant for now but there are rumours that LEZ compliancy will change again in 2014 .

Guess I just found out as I became a new owner, good of Boris to take the time to write to me though I thought
My L200 is not compliant because it is registered before 2002, and this appears to be the decider as I suspect we all exceed the min weight figure. But I bet there is no difference between my 2001 engine and one from 2002.
The other irony is my mate has just bought a 1997 2.8TD Pajero, but thats a Private Car so is exempt, so wtf has this tax got to do with emissions? It just targets another niche of tax payers, and the government know they work and earn cos they own trade vehicles.. clever!

Looking at the link above that Nickburt put in, if you read lower down, it appears that from the 3/01/2012 it will apply to all vehicles in the L200 4x4 category first registered before 1/10/2006.
Must be worth checking especially if you live within the LEZ area.
Lurch will be pleased to learn that 'mobile cranes' are exempt from this legislation.

Which makes a mockery of the whole thing.
The new shapes came out in January 2006 with a Euro3 emission engine.
They were happy enough to only charge us £110 per year RFL then as the emissions were so good.

My apologies I have mis-read the document from Vospa above which is written in their normal confusing manner and mixing 2 different vehicle types in the same heading.
I have checked with them and the following is correct.
From 3/1/2012 it affects only l200's registered before 1/01/2002 which do not conform to Euro 3 emissions.
From 3/01/2012 Lorries , buses and larger vans will have to comply with Euro 4 Emissions.
Later registered l200's wont come into the Euro 4 emission group until the next stage which at present is expected to be 2014 if it is introduced.

Yeah I had a nice Y-reg truck, travelled from Kent to Yorkshire to buy her. Spent a fair bit and was really enjoying owning but had to get shot because of this stupid Zone. The only time I'd go in the Zone would be to visit my mother - I do her gardening etc and the truck was brill for taking away all the tree cuttings and stuff.
Really didn't want to sell.

If you have read the thread thoroughly it's explained clearly that the LEZ only affects L200's pre 2002.

BUT.... Did you read the 'discalimer' underneath??
Goes something like this.....
Please note: In some circumstances the compliance checker may not provide the correct compliance status for your vehicle. If your vehicle is less than 3.5 tonnes and was registered with the DVLA between July 2000 to January 2002, please call us on 0845 900 1234 to check the compliance status of your vehicle.

Reading all the blurbs on this it seems likely that the regs will change in 2014 to light goods vehicles (l200's) will have to comply to Euro 1V emissions. This will mean New shapes only as pre 2006 vehicles wont comply.
Latest model L200's will be ok as they comply with Euro5 emissions in manufacture.
Hopefully it is some distance away as yet but the 'Green Principles' mean that it will be extended to other large cities 'at some time in the future'
The joys of becoming a 'goods vehicle' owner.

No.. I don't read the disclaimer
Actually I got charged as a van going into Wales a few weeks ago, when I pointed out it wasn't a van the lady told me pick ups count as a van.. I wittily replied that as it has a hard top on it it is no longer a pick up, but sadly she could not be convinced.

I knew NOTHING about the low emissions criteria and hadn't checked. And I've been into London maybe 15+ times since buying my truck just over a year ago. From bootsie's analysis it seems I got away with it by the skin of my teeth! My truck is registered as an 02 plate but it is actually a 01! Talk about close shave! made it by a couple of months!
