you can do without it, ebay sell pipes to fill the gap
(someone in the club has one for sale but don't know if it's still available)
good luck with it

I had mine stolen last night, from Tewkesbury. It was parked on my drive under my bedroom window (which was open) and I did not hear a thing very clean cut on the pipes. The coppers told me that they have had over 12 reports of cats being stolen in the Tewkesbury area last night. I am not replacing it, am having a custom stainless steel pipe made to bridge the cap.

Do you run a classic?
if so take it to a garage and get them to weld a pipe in the gap.
