Where will the Pheonix take us next?

« on: 27 January, 2014, 00:06:50 AM »

From the organisers of the Hep for Heroes 4x4 European Rally:

Quote
What a day for the rally! Having just hit the 70,000 in terms of funds raised for H4H by the 'Class of 2014' we have just gone past the 700,000 mark raised by the rally since 2010!!!!! Awesome - and well done to every crew that has taken part and to those who will be taking part this year.

The achievement is all the more amazing when we reflect back to 2010 and the inaugural rally - which we hoped would raise 20,000!!

Now the Mac is over and done with, time to start plugging this one.  Watch out on here, Facebook and Twitter, I'll be giving it a good push.

With only 7 weeks to go to the start, last bits of prep getting done and a push on fundraising.

Only 4 weeks to go.

This time in 4 weeks we'll be getting close to the ferry and heading over to france and the D Day beaches.

If any of you would like to support Help For Heroes and all the good work they do for our wounded members of the armed forces, please make a donation on my charity donation page.  Every penny helps.

A big thank you to all of you who have already made a donation.

In two weeks time we'll be in Normandy, touring the D Day beaches and the Rally will be well an truly under way.

If you'd like to support Help for Heroes and the work they do for our wounded service men and women injured in the line of duty keeping us and the world safe, please donate as much as you like via my charity donation page.    Every penny helps.

So far, the Rally has raised over 750,000 in the 5 years it's been running, which makes it the highest fund raising single event for H4H.  Help us work towards the 1,000,000.

Last couple of days today and tomorrow, getting ready to go.
We leave home tomorrow afternoon, headingto a hotel in Swindon, then to the start at Littlecote House on Saturday morning.

To follow us while we're away on the Help for Heroes 4x4 European Rally.

The itinery can be seen here.

All vehicles are being tracked by Skytag from the start on the morning of Sat 14t June - please look for Team 16.  see here

We will also be trying to keep up to date with an online blog.  This does depend on how often we can get a decent mobile internet connection: here

There's links to Facebook and Twitter pages on the Wordpress blog, so keep an eye on them too.

The H4HRally can also be followed:

Twitter

If anyone still has a bit of money burning a hole in their pocket, please consider donating a bit of cash to Help for Heroes.  The work they do is fantastic.

Finaly back in the land of the living and relatively decent internet access.

Another fantastic trip, well worth the effort to take part.  Some 3000 miles in two weeks.

The truck performed well, with only a couple of failures along the way - broken speedo cable towards the end of the first week and a bust cv joint at the last off road section.  Nothing particularly hard, so quite surprised one of the new ones should start clicking in turns, but hey, didn't stop us getting maximum score on that stage.

Biggest surprise ............ we came 1st overal   Grin

The weather was great the whole trip with only a couple of rainy nights and a short lived down pour on the way North after the finish - at least it gave the truck a good wash down.

Looking forward now to the National Asda Collection Weekend this coming weekend, so a few more pennies in the pot hopefully.

Internet connections weren't brilliant, plus a c*ck up with my Vodaphone overseas data useage prevent me doing anything in the way of a blog, but I will get it up to date with some photos and descriptions of places we went to.  It's about time, there wasn't such a restriction on overseas useage.

Would we do it again?   You bet.  The event has been running for 5 years and we've taken part in all 5.  Next year will be the final one, so there's no way we're going to miss it, being one of only 4 crews that have taken part every year.

Many, many thanks to all of you who donated.  There's still time if you haven't and would like to, just use the link in my signature.

Been at ASDA Aintree all day today collecting for Help for Heroes as part of the ASDA/H4H National Campaign weekend. (Back there again tomorrow).

Scores on the doors for today:

Merchandise = 421.50
Donations (including wristbands) = 495.81
GRAND TOTAL = 917.31

Plus
Euro = 12 cents
Dollar = 1 dime

That's not as good as it should have been (and massively down compared to last year) as our merchandise from H4H went astray and we ended up obtaing what we could from our area co-ordinator (thanks Judy) (529.50 worth).

BUT .... EVERY penny counts. H4H = WINNER.

Fianl totl for the two days at Asda was

934.12 in donations
628.00 in merchandise
Total 1562.12

Not as good as the last couple of years, but there was quite a lot of high profile sport on - Wimbledon finals, British Grand Prix, World Cup football and the start of the Tour de France.

Still, a respectable amount and, as always, Help for Heroes is the winner again.

A BIG thank you to all who have donated.  I'll be keeping the donation page open until the end of August, which is when we have to close it down.  So if you've a few pounds burning a hole in your pocket, please feel free to off load it in our direction - link in my signature to our donation page.  Don't forget to add Gift Aid if you're a UK tax payer.
