Hi all
I sold my l200 and picked up a pajero, I wiil add pics soon
there is no eml light coming on or anything
but the turbo sound very loud
the egr valve was already taken off
there doesnt seem to be alot of power considering its a 2.8
Is there a way to check the performance of the engine, ie rolling road test or diognostic tester
I just want to know if im getting good performance considering the age and mileage (235k)
also is there any point in getting a decat ??
regards

sould be 120 or 140 with the mitsi chip on those.

less sensors on them I doubt the engine will tell you whats wrong

does it smoke?

Hi what do you mean 120 or 140 ?
she smokes a bit, black smoke mostly but not consistant. I though she smoked because of the mileage
I was told you can push the filter through on the cat instead of buying a decat, is this true?
also could it be the injectors
sorry for all the questions ....

could be injectors, or turbo, most likely turbo given the mileage and the sound, injectors are very simple you can take em apart and clean em yourself if you want, check the turbo for wobble,

120 or 140 horsepowerssss, they give more than the 2.5 but not a whole lot,

its probably easier and just better to get a decat, but I would have thought that at 1994 it wouldn't even have a cat?

If it's a 2.8 with turbo and intercooler then it's 125hp.
Mine has a no cat. It does make a difference.  Also no EGR. If it's mechanical pump then u can turn it up like I have.  Turn the turbo actuater up. Really livens these engines up. They won't be fast but will have a lot of torque.  I had 4 tonne behind mine on an ifor the other day and it didnt tow bad at all. Think of them more like tractor engines rather than car engines any they will  do you well.

Black smoke is just over fuelling and not unusual on older engines
As for bph it's 125

I've owned 2 Pajero 2.8s over the years.   They never feel terribly powerful.   I'd just change the fuel filter and do an oil change.  If the turbo dies it sounds awful and becomes undriveable so if yours isn't like that i wouldn't worry about it.

any play is too much play, get a boost gauge on it

hi Paul, did you checked the intercooler hoses for damage/leaks?
it can give also turbo noises, and black smoke because to rich on fuel and to low on air, just a reminder  Wink

The banjo bolts should be easy to get hold of.   Is half of it stuck in the turbo?
Neither of mine had a cat.
As long as it's not burning loads of oil then i wouldn't worry about a bit of black smoke.  If it's burning oil then it will be the breather gauzes in the rocker cover that are blocked.

sorted the turbo! there is a little smoke but not burning oil  woohoo
not having much luck with this truck though!!
as that very same night someone tried to pinch the truck, and got into my garage too, only damaged the cowling tho
I didnt think they could steal the automatics as you need the key in the ignition and your foot on the brake to unlock the gear stick, is this true??
I know if they really wanted it they would take it.
anyone got ideas on better security, apart from an alarm, steering wheel lock and  gear stick locks
oh and im going to need a steering wheel cowling

regards
