Hi all, Iíve recently had an issue with my radiator leaking water where AA found a leak in it. They sealed it with RadWeld or similar and seemed to stop it.
Now, about 2-3 weeks later unnoticed oil in radiator - black substance. I thought it might be Radweld but now also in expansion tank..

Truck runs fine, no smoke etc..only other problem is sometimes a screeching from engine area when car is cold which I assume is belts?!?
Not sure if related..

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Amir,
With the truck running have a look at the expansion tank to see if there are any bubbles coming from the radiator via the expansion tank fill pipe. If there are then this will be a sure sign that engine gasses are escaping into the coolant system which could be blackening your water,

Craig.

Hi Craig, looked at expansion tank and no bubbles that I could see on engine normal temperature but it is pretty much pure oil. Will try and upload picture. Also barely no oil in engine bay but water is in radiator, mixed with oil.

True, but costs money...how does this happen? Is it bad maintenance?

usually a water leak, or being overheated will kill it

Update: Have taken truck to Halfords who have pressure tested head gasket and say itís ok BUT theyíve called Mitsubishi who say that it is actual head, and gasket as common failure...
Donít know what to do now?

Change head?

My garage asked me to go for run, checked radiator pipe and said itís not head. Theyíre saying need to look into other possible seals gone but takes time..

Millers charge £400 for new head with insides

You might as well take it to the local bakery as take it to Halfords.

Lots of oil in water, no overheating..engine seems to want to stall in idle. Not great in fuel and no oil
In engine, in radiator and expansion tank

trust me what he is saying is useful. so maybe take the advice your given when you ask for it?

its not oil cooler as its air cooler not water cooler.

could be turbo in theory but I have never seen it.

truck can run without bubbling or overheating and still be the head gasket

Yes, I do know Halfords arenít the best place but I have AA parts and repair service and they are part of their approved garages so easier on their part.

Stating the obvious and being by about it arenít helpful to anyone, if someone wants to help then do so but no need to be a sarcastic little monkey !

General reason for not being able to skim heads on many engines is to do with the camshaft alignment. If the head warps then the cam seats are likely to go out of line as well. If you then skim the head surface flat the cam seats will still be squiffy.

A good straight edge and a set of feeler gauges should tell you how flat it is - or isn't.

If there are any cracks in there however, no skimming will help anyway.

Yeah I know what your saying, i was just speaking from my own experience. It was £60ish for the gasket and bolts and roughly the same to have the head tested so I took a chance and fitted the gasket as my head was perfectly flat and i could see no cracks against advice from Nick Burt (legend). When iíd put it all back together it was exactly the same so I ordered a bare head and changed my own camshaft and valves over and it was fixed. It didnít cost me anymore but it was just a bit of a ball ache aving to do it all again.
